Tip Rant

Tips I found on various websites...

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.. I didn't know that!

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic, and at the end of the recipe if you want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs: Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting: When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread: To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away: Plant your plants in the ground, work the nutrients in your soil. Then wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go, cover with mulch, and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass: Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

No More Mosquitoes: Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Flexible vacuum: To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip to eliminate static cling. It works; you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... Ta DA! ... Static is gone.

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

De-fog your windshield: Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Re-opening envelopes: If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It unseals easily.

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Goodbye Fruit Flies: To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup an d gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants: Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Wash your dryer filter: The heating unit went out on my dryer. The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material and the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free, and smell good. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box? Apparently that stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!

The Weary

BEFORE YOU READ THIS. Please click play on the video, as the song is meant to be heard while reading the poem. :)

This is for the weary
Cold and pulled
from every angle.
Mangled, tangled
hearts of the past
that live in the present.

Blown and blustery
How your knuckles ache
and take and take and take
the cries of your children
and muster your own.

Through the grey paved streets of the city
twinkling in the moonlight-
you dredge;
pulling your old suitcase,
cracked Italian leather.

Moving on, moving forward.
Never knowing when the next stop is.
Inertia pulling you from the inside out.

The world goes by in a water colored blur
of births,marriages, and deaths.
Trains rushing on pulsing tracks
Billboards lit against inky black skies.
The city is alive, and it begs you to notice.

Skyscrapers, payrolls, stocks.
It means nothing to you.
You cradle a cup of coffee.
The steam curls around the edge of your lips.
Time stops.

This is everything.

THIS is for the weary....

Are you Culturally Literate?

So a professor of mine was discussing these "cultural literacy" tests that are available to test how culturally literate you are. I find this concept both amusing and perplexing at the same time. Either way, I made my way to the website and decided to take the test. I took the "American Literature" test and it dawned on me... Literature = Status.
The memorization of Dostoyevsky or the casual mention of Thoreau in a discussion at a cocktail party means just as much about status than it does anything else. Why is that? Who determines canonicity? What led critics to determine that "The Great Gatsby" was more important than any other works at the time? Can Harry Potter be literature? Can a cookbook be literature? What are your thoughts?

Take the cultural literacy in YOUR field of knowledge and see how you score.

My Child To Be

To My Child to be,

There is only one of you. Amongst a sea of rainbow faces that tell you to fall into line, you stand out. March at your own pace and tell them why. I will SUPPORT it. Always. You are beautiful. Do not let the pages of a glossy magazine dictate how you should feel about yourself. Everyone is different and that in itself is beauty. Seek knowledge. We were not put on this earth to obtain degrees. Just seek knowledge from all avenues of life and I will be satisfied. Read the books you are supposed to read, and then read the books you aren’t supposed to read. They usually teach you more. Read labels, old Journals, Street Signs, and newspapers. Make your own decisions about them. Know that Parents are people too, and we aren’t always right. Know that times change, but morals don’t. Be a good person. Give more than you take. Listen carefully. Laugh loudly. Love immensely. I will support whomever you love. Choose wisely. Grow things. Start with wildflowers, you can’t go wrong. Be humble, for life is a gift. Crying is okay, that’s what chocolate is for. You can play whatever sport you like, and love whatever color you love. Follow your dreams with your feet on the ground. I will support your aspirations. Speak up for yourself; it’s how your Mother survives. Be empowered. I would do anything for your happiness.

Love,
Mommy.

Scarves

I love scarves because they remind me of the time I left you.

I love the memory of untying my red silk scarf on the side of the highway

In the middle of the night.

Jewelry fell from it like glittering confetti twinkling in the dark.

They scattered down the grassy ditch alongside the dew drops

Which were far more priceless.

As I drove, I can feel the memories flying out of the open window

Like a road map I once so desperately needed

in order to find my way around.

I once thought Love meant a constant aching need.

To be accepted. To be praised. To be valued.

I was wrong.

I once thought that anger meant passion

and passion meant pain.

Nascence fills my throat and wells into my eyes.

my hands grip the leather wheel and I exhale

and I scream so loud...

I am not sure if it's a cry of joy or sorrow.

But maybe a little bit of both.

Fireflies trail my Volvo.

They know I am on my way to something miraculous.

I am a Woman.

This occurs to me.

A woman Without a map.

Warm ,exhausted and determined.

But the world is Rich with harvest.

The scarf no longer hides my face.

It adorns it.

Face....

I have one.

Voice....

I have one too.

This is enough for me.

A smile spreads across my berry mouth.

I am full and ripe and blush

Broad and grand and flush.

Throbbing electric glow.

With a fearsome wing span.

I will make it. I will grow.

Towards the city without a plan.

To dip my toes in a freedom

of tomorrow.

This is what I vowed.

Baleen for the Rainy days

and Silver paint for the clouds.

Jesus shows up at Walmart

So I decided I am gonna talk about some media/celeb stuff on this blog...to change it up a little. The latest? A couple from North Carolina Claim to possess a receipt with the image if Christ on it.

Gentry Lee Sutherland and Jacob Simmons got the receipt after paying for photos at Walmart. The couple noticed the image several days after their Walmart purchase and believe it to be blessed. "People are going to believe what they want to believe," said Sutherland.
"There's tons of people who will say, 'Oh, we're in the Bible Belt,' but here's my question to the doubters, who else has the power to put their face on a check-out receipt but Jesus?" The couple plan to keep the receipt and share it with close relatives and loved ones.

If you ask me, it's about time Walmart found a little Jesus.

Easy Breezy Baked Mac and Cheezy

Woah. Before you run away, must I remind you? I NEVER give you hard stuff right? So don't worry about it! Here is my little secret..this recipe uses BOXED macaroni and cheese! Feel better? Good! You will feel even more amazing once you taste it. So let's get started. You will need:

1 or 2 boxes of your fav. brand Mac and cheese. ( Depending on how many people are eating,
1 box generally serves 2 people )

Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Grated Parmesan Cheese. (I used a Parmesan/Romano mix)

2 cups of milk

1 tablespoon of Butter.

2 tablespoons of Cream Cheese.

Bread crumbs.

OPTIONAL MIX INS: Spicy sausage, chicken, chopped broccoli.

Preheat Oven to 370 degrees.

Step 1: Prepare Macaroni as directed on box, drain, leaving pasta moist. ( While pasta is boiling saute any mix In's you want to use, so that they are cooked)

Step 2: Over low flame add cheese packet, 1 cup of milk, butter, cream cheese, and sprinkle in some shredded cheddar and Parmesan until it is gooey.Salt and Pepper to taste. A dash of garlic powder, if desired.

Add Mix In's Last. Stir.

Step 3: Pour Macaroni into a casserole dish and layer with Cheddar Cheese, and Parmesan. If you are making a lot, alternate cheese and pasta layers until you run out of pasta, ending with Cheese layer on top.

Step 4: Pour 1 cup of milk over the entire dish. Sprinkle with a light layer of bread crumbs.

Step 5: Bake for about 30 minutes, or until cheese starts to bubble and bread crumbs start to toast lightly.

Serve with a Hawaiian roll, and a beer. :)

YOU ARE WELCOME.

Tiffany Says:

Dear Tiffany,

I have been with my boyfriend for two and a half years. However, I have known him for 5, as we went to college together. I would like to get engaged, but every time I bring it up, he changes the subject. I am getting really annoyed. I think that we are both at a good time in our lives to do it, and I don't understand why he won't propose. I know that I am a good girlfriend and that I will be a good wife. What is his deal?
Sincerely,
Tired of Waiting.

Dear Tired,

The first thing I need you to do is ask yourself why you want to be engaged/get married. Why is it important to you? You need to identify why you need this, before you can go about trying to make it happen. The reason being is that many women do not know why they want this in the first place. Sit down and ask yourself why you desire this. What does marriage mean to you? What will benefit from it? I noticed you said, "We are both at a good time in our lives to do it" You have to realize, that getting married is not something that you can put up on a timeline, though many people do just that. What may be a good time for you, may NOT be a good time for him. Likewise, getting married is a beautiful thing, but it is also a lifelong commitment that should not be ventured into lightly. Just because you feel like it's a good time, is not a good reason for getting married.

Other illogical reasons for getting hitched are as follows: You think it will improve your relationship. This is a very bad idea. The relationship should be secure before you enter into marriage. Too many times, young women think that marriage will help their guy "grow up" and it backfires on them. Putting undo pressure on someone to get married is not only unfair, it is unhealthy and the marriage may suffer from it. Getting married because your family wants you to, or because all your friends are is also not good. Do not let other people rush you in life. It is your life, and you are going to be the one who has to live it.

Once you have sat down and evaluated why you want this, it is time to have a talk with your significant other. Tell him exactly why you want this. Maybe you want to start a family, maybe you want to spend the rest of your life with this person and this ceremony will symbolize that.
Make sure to talk it out calmly. If you are expressing your love, your tone should be loving. Avoid arguing, accusations, or any high pressure/ triggering words. Tell them exactly what you want and why. Important* Ask them what they want as well. You may just find out, that they may not want the same things as you, or may not want them when you do. Remember, there are two people in this relationship. Tell him/her why you are ready NOW. You two may have to come to a decision on when is a good time for you both to take that step. Keep in mind, that you may realize that he may NOT want marriage at at all.

Remember, no matter how much you love someone, if they are not headed in the same general direction you are...it may be best to move on. Never deal with someone who is not open to hearing your feelings, or criticizes you for feeling them. Your feelings are very valid. If you are dealing with someone who is unwilling to compromise or listen to you, this is not the person for you. These conversations should be healthy ones, which help the both of you get on the same page, and nurture your future together. Being criticized for expressing your desires, is wrong. You are worth more than that, and you are worth being heard.

Lastly, I want to say: Marriage can be a beautiful thing, and a wonderful step in your life, but it doesn't always equal happiness. If you are happy right now, the way things are... cherish it and enjoy it because in the end, it is about your BOND with your partner, and not about a piece of paper.

Letting Go...

I know it still hurts you. I know it still hurts to hear their name. That lump in your throat just aching to take over and steal your voice. Threatening to take control of you and clinging to your heart, with every beat, you feel the past. Like Wisteria climbing the walls of your soul. Weeping. Seething. Aching. Heavy with Sorrow. Tonight though, my love, it is time to let it go.

Nothing comes of holding onto old wounds. Nothing comes of crying for what should have been, or could have been. FORGIVE those who have hurt you. Forgive them wholeheartedly with lungs full of sweet air and arms full of compassion. Let your forgiveness fill every vein , until you succumb to the release that only forgiveness brings. It is time. It is time to do yourself the favor of moving on. It is time to stop letting anger tear you down, limb by limb. Forgiveness is power. It is taking your life back. It is knowing that you survived. That you are not a victim, you are not bitter. You have lived and you have learned.

Forgiveness is having the last laugh, and not a vengeful laugh, but a deep guttural, from the bottom of your belly laugh. Forgiveness is a long sigh on a lily pad, a field of untouched snow, a new chapter. It is the chapter where you realize you're gonna read the book, because you can't put it down now...you want to see what happens next. Forgiveness is not about them. It is about you. Let it go today. Make the choice to not let the past dictate the future. You are where you are for a reason. You followed the path you were supposed to take. Keep going...keep going. Tomorrow is a new day, and you have things to do.

Tie Dye Cupcakes

If you know me well, you know my undying love for cupcakes. The moist delicious mini cakes are perfect for snacking, and can be made so many different ways. Yum! For those of us who don't have the time or skill to bake from scratch, here is a SUPER EASY and fun recipe from a box!! So without further ado, I present to you : TIE DYE CUPCAKES, or CUPCAKE SURPRISE, or ( insert your name)'s fantablous five star cupcakes!! Whatever you want really...

YOU WILL NEED:

Box of white/yellow cake batter (including ingredients called for on box i.e. eggs, and vegetable oil)
Cupcake or muffin baking tray
Cupcake paper cups
2-6 different colors of food coloring
Frosting of your choice
Sprinkles or decor of your choice

STEP 1:

Simply buy a box of any white/yellow cake mix. Vanilla, White, French Vanilla, Yellow, Butter, Golden, and Lemon all work. Follow the directions on the box to make the batter. Usually you just add eggs, oil and water and whisk.

STEP 2:

Separate the batter into 3-6 different bowls. (Depending on how many colors you have, but remember too many colors makes it difficult to prepare) I used 4 pastel colors.

STEP 3

Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to each bowl. You may even mix the food coloring to create diff colors like lavender or lime green, e.t.c..

STEP 4

Now the fun part! Line a muffin or cupcake tray with paper cups, and preheat the oven according to the box. Pour small amounts of each batter into each paper cup. Be creative! Layer them, spiral them, whatever you like! Remember, you don't have to use each color in one cup. Some can have only 2 colors if you like. Note*** ONLY fill cups 2/3 of the way or they will overflow when baking.

Once the cupcakes have baked and COOLED. You are ready for STEP 5:

Frost and decorate!! Use any frosting and decorations you like. I like to stick with Vanilla, because it surprises people when they bite into the cupcake and find a rainbow! If you want however, you can mix some food coloring into the frosting and make colored frosting. :)

LASTLY, you want to take a bite!

And there you have it!

An open letter to Walmart

Dear Walmart,

You have managed to give me food poisoning, put the wrong tires on my car, and sell me a bookcase that fell apart on my head. Yet, all of this I took with a grain of salt, and a swig of Pepto. However, the time has come where one learns to draw the line somewhere.

Walmart, you are a red monopolizing scam of a corporation that preys on the middle to lower class citizens of America. There I said it. You hire unqualified individuals to do just about anything, and pay them the lowest wages possible. The lack of economic competition to produce goods and services is troublesome, while your lack of viable goods are astounding, to say the least. Also, you are NOT China, despite what you may think. You have wiped out the majority of small businesses from here to Kingdom come, and it is shameful. However, there is no use in beating a dead horse, so I will get down to it. It is not the fact that you are an enterprise of shameful high riders, with heads in a cloud of stolen money, it is the fact that your quarry are the under developed and the misinformed. Now you are planning on opening up a "Hispanic Walmart". I sincerely hope not. How dare you charge people for produce that is far from fresh. The produce you offer is disgusting, and I for one, will no longer remain silent. I will call for the boycott of your so called "goods", because you are not pulling the wool on this "hispanic" anymore. Appall-Mart is more like it.

Linger

Ever notice how a single scent can send you flying back in time, to a certain period in your life or event? The smell of leather reminds me of my mother while I was growing up. During the winters she always wore a long form fitting leather jacket with a red scarf and Italian leather gloves. Her breath always smelled like Doublemint ( her favorite gum) and like most women in the late 80's, my mother wore Charlie by Revlon perfume. The quintessential perfume of the modern day working woman. Sensual, powerful, it smelled a lot like Cedar to me. It reminded me of a chest of old blankets, hibernating for the summer. Warm and promising, when you needed it.

Scent is such a powerful medium as it evokes the strongest of memories. I have almost cried after smelling a stranger walk by me, who wore the perfume of a loved one who has passed. I have once, been instantly transported to my first love, when someone wearing Liz Claiborne's Curve, handed me some change at the gas station.

Whether it be the smoky smell of a campfire ...the waxy smell of a new box of crayons...or the smell of my father's old car, I am convinced that there is nothing more powerful, than that of which we breathe and the aroma that life has to offer.

Look for my upcoming perfume reviews!

Landslide

There comes a time
when the yellowest part of you
rusts gently at the edges, and you can just feel it happening.
My time came years ago, when Roxy reopened...

You see, Roxy was all the rage, and they never checked I.D.
Gina and I....we had a plan, and there was no way we could be stopped.
Dipped in the yellow of youth, and doused in Exclamation. We just knew we would get in.

Dance moves ready and hair sprayed to oblivion. Shhhhh. "Abuela is doing the rosary,it won't be long now until she is fast asleep." -And out the door we will slip, into the inky black night, and the smoke filled chambers of the nightclub. Chelsea Piers, we are on our way. Gold hoops loop at our necks and eyeliner is our war paint... and we have never felt so grown in our lives.

This is our chance. We are going to take back the night,no pills, no counting, no IV's. No nurses telling us what to do. At Roxy, Gina can blend into the crowd.. She doesn't have to be sick, she doesn't have to be a patient. She can be Queen Gina, goddess of Reggae, Spice Girls afficianado, and Menudo's number one fan.. and I, I can be her sidekick. I don't have to be the one who makes sure she doesn't skip a dose. I don't have to be the one to tell her "No, You can't do that." You're too sick. You're  too delicate.- And so tonight. We are gonna let it all go. Tonight, we are gonna forget the rules and make our own.

But when I get back from the restroom... Gina is crying...because her hair was falling out, and even though I covered it with a headband, she knew it was there. She said the room was tilting, and I said, "No, the world is." and though she still wanted to go to Roxy I said, "No, you can't."

I got into bed with her right then, and she said "Sing to Me?".. "Tupac?" I joked. "No, Landslide" she replied....

A week later she was gone. I looked around the room at all the Lipsmackers and Pogs and wondered, "Why did I have to be the one to say no?" I think back to the time I caught her with a cigarette and snatched it straight out of her hand. "You can't!" I yelled. Her eyes glared at me, "Could you stop yelling? My friends are watching!" she replied as if I was the wrong one and I never understood....

The other day I came across the word "cant" C-A-N-T. Defined as: "The thrust or motion that causes a slant or a tilt" and it hit me... all those times she complained that the room was tilting, it was because she was living in "CANT", and I wish I could take it all back now. I want to tell her that she could have gotten that tattoo, and that she could have gone night swimming, and that she could have stayed out past her curfew... and that I am sorry...but I can't. I want to tell her that she deserves to go to Roxy and that dancing...dancing will help with the nausea, and laughing? laughing will help with the pain. I want her to know that "CANT" was the only way I knew how to protect her, but now, now it all makes sense. The tilts, the slopes, the landslides.... and now, because of her, I live my life on the horizon declining all implications of "CANT". I want to run screaming through the gates of heaven yelling "I can! I can! and you can too!!!" and I would hope that she would hear me. I would hope that she would run to me and say..." Thanks Tiff, for the support and all, but could you stop yelling? my friends are watching".

The Grandeur of God.

This photo invokes one of my favorite poems by Gerard Hopkins:

THE WORLD is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

Fashion Faux Pas Friday

Okay. It's Fashion Faux Pas Friday. Today we will talk about the monstrosities of fashion crime that are committed every day by women and men everywhere. Whether it's a close friend, a relative, or you.... we must take the steps as loyal citizens to ensure that these crimes come to a stop immediately. Without further ado,

Platform Heels.

I am not sure when these things made a comeback, but I am just counting the days until they go away. Don't get me wrong, while I adore a nice heel and wear them often, these spiky, stacked, clunky pieces of stripper wear are just plain scary. Heels that tower over 3 inches tall or not only tacky, but unhealthy for your feet and spinal cord, and let's face it ladies...you can't walk in them! I see women everywhere wobbling and teetering forward on these things. Not cute. So unless, you are a supermodel, or have the legs of a goddess, Let it go.

Low Rise Jeans

Self Explanatory. There is no reason to show off all the inventory like this.

For the love of God, pick up your pants! There is not a woman on God's Green Earth, that thinks this is cute. It is very 1991,and please..don't try to be contemporary by doing it with skinny jeans.

This is an appropriate look, in my opinion

Leopard Print.

Some people are taking this trend way too far. While I adore a little leopard lining, or maybe a leopard clutch, head to toe leopard is a bit aggressive. Save it for the Amazon.

Tacky Nails.

Scary. How do you type, dial a phone, or wipe your er-- bottom properly?? Overly long, acrylic nails limit dexterity, and compromise nail health. Acrylic nails can cause serious damage if broken, and also fosters an environment for bacteria and fungus to breed. So I encourage you to go natural. If you really can't stand the thought of sporting your natural nails, get them at reasonable lengths. Also, I think nail designs should be limited.

Designer brands

Owning a quality designer handbag is nice. Idolizing a designer is not. Head to toe Coach, Gucci, ..e.t.c... is not cute. Never has been. What is so fantastic about a bunch of C's or G's on a bag anyway? Paying upwards of $300.00 for a handbag or pair of shades because it has a bunch of C's on it is ridiculous. The same thing goes for T-shirts that cost $48 bucks and just read "Aeropostale". Where is the quality there? Why is it so important to people, to have labels stuck all over them? Does it make your life more fulfilling? No? It just makes you broker than you were before, with an ugly shirt too. Oh, and knockoffs...well, you know better than that.

C'mon Guys...

I don't get it. Not unique, due to the masses of people wearing them, they look quite silly, and you get bonus dingbat points if there are no lenses in them. If you own a pair of these, you may be suffering from Tryingtooharditis. It's okay, we have all been there.

So that's it for today, stop by next Friday to help combat these Fashion Faux Pas and make the world a better place. What other fashion faux pas can you think of? Comment below!

Breathe.

The world is wistful and hazy with each labored breath. I struggle. I pull. I wheeze.
I am drowning. Quicksand. Undercurrent. Summer heat. Thick. Wet. Stifling. Unpierced Cacti. Unrequited embrace of Agave. I long for the Eagle's territory.
Blustery storm. White feathered snow. Velvety and cold. Prickling my throat. Crystallized Fruit, invading my Mouth. Crushed Stone. A thousand Elephants. Tusks. Rust. Dust. Swallows me whole. Balloons fill. Tighter. Bigger. Wider. I am full. Fuller. The Fullest. I can't breathe.

Odds and ends

I like to find a way to recycle everything...boxes, old bottle caps, old paint, playing cards. When I was a young girl, I used an empty chocolate box to store my crayons and toys in.  As I got older I realized that I can turn old shirts into new ones, and that thrift stores were like treasure hunts. I have since come home with vintage books, old buttons, and even postcards from the 1800's!! All these things have been turned into art in my hands. How amazing is it, to be able to transform something old into something new!

Here is a bracelet I made out of sheet music...for all you musicians out there.

Anything can be art, so please reduce waste and support the cause.

When Yellow Leaves Hang

When  yellow leaves hang
I will look for you,
silver streaks and frail.
My branches will reach
twisted and tangled
up your vined walls.

My edges will be
crumbling and veined,
but you will see in me:
my brightest hour
my hottest meal
my sweetest poem
and my golden skin.

The sun will slide south,
These roots will be watered,
and this rolling stone will moss.

And you will be...
My last leaf.
